Title:
STEERING GEAR
Document Type and Number:
WIPO Patent Application WO/1998/012096
Kind Code:
A1
Abstract:
The present invention pertains to the field of vehicle construction and may be used in the steering control mechanism of a car. The present invention may be used to improve vehicle manoeuvrability and relates to a steering mechanism that comprises a cam mechanism with upper kinetic pairs. Each pair is made of a master member (cam) and a slave member (push bar), and causes through kinetic links the rotation of the wheels that may be directed along a given trajectory and according to a predetermined displacement mode. This steering mechanism comprises an elongated cam (2) having the teeth of a worm gear (3) formed on its surface, wherein said teeth co-operate with the endless screw (4) of the lower steering shaft (5) that is connected to the upper steering shaft and to the steering wheel. This steering mechanism also includes left (6) and right (7) push bars that comprise rollers (8, 9) co-operating with the grooves (10, 11) of said cam (2). The left push bar (6) is hinged through a side rod (13) to a rotating lever (14), wherein said lever is connected to the rotating pivot (15) of the wheel (16) and the right push bar (7) so that the rack may co-operate with the pinion (17) mounted on the axis of the wheel (19) rotating pivot (18). The profile of the cam (2) is designed so as to use the variable length of the stopper-limited run of the left (6) and right (7) push bars during each rotation of the cam (2) and according to the predetermined displacement mode of the vehicle.
