A step counting method and apparatus. The method comprises repeating the following steps: a) obtaining three single-axis accelerated speed signals with predetermined lengths from the triaxial output of a triaxial accelerated speed sensor worn by a runner (S10); b) performing high-pass filtering on each single-axis accelerated speed signal (S20); c) detecting a base frequency of each single-axis accelerated speed signal on which high-pass filtering is performed, so as to obtain a base frequency (S30); d) setting a low-pass or band-pass filter by using a lowest base frequency in the three single-axis accelerated speed signals as a cutoff frequency, and performing low-pass or band-pass filtering on the corresponding single-axis accelerated speed signal on which high-flux filtering is performed (S40); e) obtaining an accelerated speed signal extreme value point from each single-axis accelerated speed signal on which the low-pass or band-pass filtering is performed, and removing an interference extreme value point (S50); f) counting the number of the accelerated speed signal extreme value points after the interference extreme value points are removed (S60); and g) determining the accumulated step number of the runner (S70). By using the method, steps can be precisely counted.
