Abstract:
A stereoscopic endoscope image processing apparatus comprises: a synchronization adjustment unit that performs a synchronization adjustment between a left-eye image signal and a right-eye image signal; and an image analysis unit that analyzes an area occupied by the image of an operating instrument and existing in a peripheral area around a central area of the image of one of the image signals. The image analysis unit comprises: an image division unit that fragments the peripheral area, thereby dividing the peripheral area into a predetermined number of areas; a color component analysis unit that analyzes the color components in each area; an image edge component extraction unit that extracts the edge components in each area; an operating instrument area evaluation unit that evaluates the size of the area occupied by the image of the operating instrument and existing in the peripheral area; a blurring information generation unit that generates, in accordance with an analysis result of the image analysis unit, information about a blurring area, which is an area where a blurring is to be implemented for an image in the peripheral area, and about a blurring intensity in implementing the blurring for the image in the peripheral area; and an image combination unit that combines 3D images, which have been obtained by doing the respective blurring implementations for the left-eye and right-eye images in accordance with a generation result of the blurring information generation unit, and outputs the 3D images as combined.
