A stop device (1) provided with: a pivotable unit (10) which is provided with a workpiece contact section (12) making contact with a workpiece (W) and stopping the workpiece (W) being conveyed and which is pivotable between a contact position at which the workpiece contact section (12) is in contact with the workpiece and a retracted position at which the workpiece contact section (12) is retracted to a position below the lower surface of the workpiece (W) and is not in contact with the workpiece (W); an elastic member (20) for the pivotable unit, applying a pressing force to the pivotable unit (10) in the direction in which the pressing force positions the pivotable unit (10) to the contact position; an electric drive means which is provided with movable sections (321, 322, 323) connected to the pivotable unit (10) and also with a drive section (31) for moving the movable sections in the direction in which the pivotable unit (10) pivots to the retracted position side; and a pivoting restriction member (40) which moves in association with the movement of the movable sections (321, 322, 323) to restrict the pivoting of the pivotable unit (10) by engaging with the pivotable unit (10) and to release the restriction on the pivoting.
