Description:
A STOPPER FOR AN ENGINE HOOD HINGE

Field of the Invention

The present invention relates to a stopper for an engine hood hinge which enables to stop the engine hood in case the hood of a vehicle opens too much.

Background of the Invention

Hinge is a connection means which is used in door, window and shutter flaps, furniture, chest and suitcase covers. Generally, it is made of soft iron, steel, brass bronze, plastic, chromium nickel plates. A hinge is comprised of two metal sheets which have screw holes thereon and are called leaf. There are a certain number of bearings on these leaves placed with intervals. The bearings on this leaf enter between the bearings on the other leaf, and a pin called shaft (a cylindrical pin which attaches the hinge covers to each other and enables opening and closing) connects two leaves by means of passing through all these bearings. The protrusions located under and above the shaft are called peak.

Today, there are single stage stoppers on the hinge in order to prevent the engine hood from hitting on the engine hood hinges used in vehicles. It is observed that the engine hood damages itself or other parts on the hinge by hitting in case the stoppers are deformed as a result of misuse.

The movable part of the vertically moving hinges known in the state of the art being attached on the hinge and its fixed part being attached on the vehicle expands fixed hinge part, therefore placement problems on the vehicle occur. The Problems Solved with the Invention The objective of the present invention is to provide a stopper for a hinge which prevents the vehicle hood from damaging the parts on the vehicle by opening too much. Another objective of the present invention is to provide an engine hood hinge which can be applied to vertically moving hinges and does not create placement problem.

A further objective of the present invention is to provide an engine hood hinge which prevents the engine hood from opening in different angles by enabling the hinge to open in a balanced way during opening of the engine hood.

Detailed Description of the Invention A stopper for engine hood hinge developed to fulfill the objectives of the present invention is illustrated in the accompanying figures, in which:

A stopper for engine hood hinge (1), which enables the engine hood to be stopped in case the vehicle hood opens too much, essentially comprises

at least one movable body (2) which is attached on the engine hood, at least one first hole (21) which is made on the movable body (2),

at least one fixed body (3) which is attached on the vehicle chassis, at least one second hole (31) which is made on the fixed body (3) and concentric with the first hole (21),

- at least one bolt (4) which is passed through the first hole (21) and the second hole (31) that are concentric,

at least one bushing (5) which is placed on the bolt (4),

at least one nut (6) which is connected on the threaded surface of the bolt (4), at least one opening (7) which is made on the fixed body (3),

- at least one placement surface (8) which is made on the movable body (2) and which is in forms of a protrusion having a flat edge,

at least one functional washer (9) which is passed onto the bolt (4) and which is located between the movable body (2) and the fixed body (3),

at least one first protrusion (91) which extends on the edge of the functional washer (9) and which is placed into the opening made on the fixed body (3), at least one second protrusion (92) which extends on the edge of the functional washer (9) and which is contact with the straight edge of the placement surface (8).

In a stopper for engine hood hinge (1) of the present invention, there is a movable body (2) mounted on the vehicle hood. There is a fixed body (3) which is connected on the vehicle chassis by means of connection members such that it will correspond to the movable body (2). A first hole (21) is made on the movable body (2) and a second hole (31) is made on the fixed body (3). The central axes of the first hole (21) and the second hole (31) are located parallel to each other and they are coaxial. A bolt (4) is passed through the first hole (21) and the second hole (31) the central axes of which are coaxial. In a preferred embodiment of the invention, the blank surface of the bolt (4) has cornered form. Furthermore in a preferred embodiment of the invention, the second hole (31) is made with corners so that the bolt (4) the blank surface of which has cornered form is fitted. A bushing (5) is passed to the open end of the bolt (4) which is passed through the first hole (21) and the second hole (31). A nut (6) is attached on the threaded surface of the bolt (4) used in order to connect the fixed body (3) and the movable body (2) to each other. An opening (7) is made on the fixed body (3). In a preferred embodiment of the invention, the said opening (7) is in form of a rectangle, and thus it makes difficult for the piece to be placed inside the opening (7) to go out. There is a placement surface (8) which is made on the movable body (2) and which is in forms of a protrusion having a straight edge. There is a functional washer (9) which is passed onto the bolt (4) and which is located between the movable body (2) and the fixed body (3). In a preferred embodiment of the invention, the hollow part of the functional washer 89) through which the bolt (4) passes has a cornered form. A first protrusion (91) extends on the edge of the functional washer (9), and the first protrusion (91) is placed into the opening (7) made on the fixed body (3). A second protrusion (92) extends on the edge of the functional washer (9), and the second protrusion (92) is placed in contact with the straight edge of the placement surface (8).

In a preferred embodiment of the invention, a first protrusion (91) is formed such that it will be vertical to the flat and large surface of the functional washer (9) formed by making a hole on the surface of a flat plate, in other words such that it will be parallel to the central axis of the hole made on the functional washer (9). The first protrusion (91) is preferable placed on the edge part of the flat surface of the functional washer (9), and it is fitted into the opening (7) made on the fixed body (3). In a preferred embodiment of the invention, a first protrusion (91) is formed such that the second protrusion (92) which is placed on the edge part of the flat surface of the functional washer (9) will be vertical to the flat and large surface of the functional washer (9), in other words such that it will be parallel to the central axis of the hole made on the functional washer (9). In a preferred embodiment of the invention, the second protrusion (92) extends such that it will be parallel to the first protrusion (91), but in opposite direction, and the second protrusion (92) contacts the placement surface (8) present on the movable body (2).

The assembly process of the functional washer (9) which is developed in order to prevent the engine hood from opening too much by the client is as follows: The bolt (4) is passed through the second hole (31) on the movable body (3) present on the chassis. The functional washer (9) is placed on the bolt (4) which is passed, and the first protrusion (91) present on the functional washer (9) is placed into the opening (7) present on the fixed body (3). After placing the functional washer (9), the movable body (4) is placed on the bolt (4), and the second protrusion (92) contacts the placement surface (8) present on the straight edge of the movable body (2). After the movable body (2) placed on the bolt (4), bushing (5) and the nut (6) are placed on the bolt (4), and thus the fixing process of the system is realized. Therefore, a stopper (1) enables the hinge to open in a balanced way during opening of the hood and the engine hood is prevented from opening in different angles.

In a stopper for engine hood hinge (1) of the present invention, the movable body (2) moves such that its central axis will be the bolt (4) upon loosening the nut (6). The first protrusion (91) and the second protrusion (92) present on the functional washer (9) are placed in certain angles. By placing the first protrusion (91) and the second protrusion (92) with certain angles, the amount of the angle created between the fixed body (3) and the movable body (2) during opening of the hood is determined. The deformation of the parts on the vehicle during excessive opening of the hood is prevented by means of a stopper (1). Furthermore, engine hood hinge which can be applied in vertically moving hinges and does not create placement problem can be obtained by means of a stopper (1).
