Abstract:

A storage system wherein a controller has chunk statistical information that includes a duplication-eliminating effect value for each stored chunk data. With regard to chunk data to be stored, which are chunk data into which a data block to be stored has been divided, the controller performs duplication retrieval by which stored chunk data that matches the chunk data to be stored is retrieved from within a duplication retrieval range, which is one portion of the plurality of stored chunk data indicated by the chunk statistical information and is a chunk data group specified from the chunk statistical information. The controller stores the chunk data to be stored in a memory device if matching stored chunk data could not be found by the duplication retrieval.
