Abstract:
According to the present invention, a storage device allocates an address region of an address space to a first virtual address space in response to writing to the first virtual address space. A controller manages regions of the first virtual address space that have been unmapped from a real address space, as unavailable regions. If the usage of the first virtual address space reaches a preset reference level, the controller or the storage device adds a new contiguous address region to the first virtual address space to produce an extended first virtual address space. The storage device allocates, to the extended first virtual address space, each region that has been unmapped from the original first virtual address space.
