The present invention relates to a stove hood and a control method therefor. The stove hood comprises: a case for discharging gas to the outside by an exhaust fan; a temperature detection sensor which is mounted in the case and detects heat transferred from a burner; a gas detection unit which is arranged on a gas pipe between a gas valve and the burner and detects that gas remaining in a section between the gas valve and the burner is flowing into the burner, before the ignition caused by the opening of a burner handle; and a control unit which is connected to the gas detection unit and the temperature detection sensor, and which opens and shuts the gas valve on the gas pipe or drives the exhaust fan according to the temperature and the supply of gas after the ignition, wherein the control unit carries out ventilation by driving the exhaust fan in advance by a signal of the gas detection unit when the remaining gas flows into the burner by the rotation of the burner handle, and drives the exhaust fan by a temperature signal of the temperature detection sensor and the signal of the gas detection unit after the ignition.
