Description:
STREET SIGN WITH THE DEVICE OF THE HONORED PERSON OR WITH AN IMAGE RELATED TO THE NAME OF THE STREET

This invention refers to a street sign which could be simply flat or a box type with its external surface made of a transparent material (plastic or glass, etc.) and the inside of the box could contain a light to enable the street sign to be clearly illuminated at night with the street name and the device of the street sign.

On the surface which views the street, there is an illustrated device depicting the street name When the street has the name of a historically famous personality, the portait of this person is shown on the street sign.

Until today the naming of streets, squares and other places (street and place naming), was made, according to the current provisions, in honour of famous persons of very important events and characteristics, or places of great importance etc.

It is obvious from the above mentioned specification that the street and place naming has a double purpose: the functional and the honorary.

The first purpose, the functional, aims at the specification and the recognition of streets, squares and other places in order to make things easier for people and the services in their daily life, dealings and functions.

The second purpose, the honorary, has a complex character and content. it consists of the historical, spiritual, and cultural character and qualitative content together with a social and patriotic lustre.

The name which is on the street sign is the name of a hero, benefactor or of a great personality. It can also be the name of a famous historical event, the name of a city or of a place with a special social patriotic importance. It is

also the name connected with acts of virtue and glory and is on the sign in order to remind to the passers-by, visitors or residents, of their personalities, values and characteristics. These names can teach, advise, encourage, example and modify.

However, daily practice proves that the usual technique of the Street and Place Signing, when it is judged by today's demands, does not fulfill this double purpose. It is a fact that when we have to search and ask in order to locate a street, we get discomforted and tired, even more so at night, until we find the street sign with an unreadable name.

It is also a fact that the simple naming of a street in honor of a person does not fulfill the honorate purpose of the naming, and the values and the meanings from which the name is derived is not easily understood and retained in our memory, and in this way, the value of the naming is limited only to the simple name of the road or place.

The present invention, the invention of Street Naming and Sign Lighting, gives a solution to the drawbacks and the disadvantages of today's technique and completely fulfils the double purpose of the Street Naming and Signing. It can also add aesthetics and magnificence to a road, building or square.

For example: The street signs of Kolokotroni Street, have the portrait of the historically-known hero, Kolokotroni. When the street has the name of a place such as Hydras Street, the signs have the device or the map of Hydra Island, or of a typical Hydra building, or the coastal road showing the port of Hydra, etc.

The present day contruction of street signing, consists of only simple street signs. These street signs cannot be distinguished at night and therefore the name of the street cannot be distinguished either. As far as the informative point of view is concerned, these street signs comprise simply the name of the

street, without offering an additionaly cultural education of the city and the place where they are located.

The abovementioned technical and cultural problems lead to the research of the technical construction of the street signs from which, on the one hand, could be visible at night and, on the other hand, could show a device relevant to the naming of the street. In this way passers-by and visitors to the city, seeing the street signs of a city, could be informed about the (portrait) presence of the honored person of every street, or about the subject which is relevant to its naming (place, historical event, etc.) So the first object of the present invention is: a) A flat sign which shows the portrait of the honored person or a device relevant to the name of the street, together with the street name, b) A box with its exterior surface made of a transparent material, whereon is shown the abovementioned as on a simple sign, and the interior of the box contains an electronical installation with a lamp which illuminates the street sign at night.

Another purpose of this invention is to solve problems of resistance, performance and duration of the invention, with several constructive solutions, which will be refered in detail in the following detailed specification, where the above mentioned and other advantages of the present invention wiil be clarified.

The invention will be comprehensive to the specialists of the present technique, with reference to the accompanied designs of this invention, whereon some preferred industrial applications of this device are shown, as: In figure 1 it is shown, in prospective, the exterior of the box of the invented street sign with its lit surface.

In figure 2 it is shown, in prospective, the interior of the box of the invented street sign, with the electrical fittings.

In figure 3, two street signs of two streets are shown which are located on a corner of two streets, with advertising signs of sponsors located under the street signs.

Refering to a selected typical example of an industrial application of the invention, hereinafter there is a numeration of the main parts of the object, with reference to a corresponding numeration of those parts in the attached designs, where these are shown in a typical descriptive device, not to scale but simply in dimensions in proportion to the parts.

According to the preferred typical application of the invention, the main parts of the construction of its object are the following: 1) Side part of the box of the street sign with interior lighting.

2) Exterior surface of the street sign with the device of the subject which is relevant to the street name.

3) Part of the exterior surface on which the name of the street is written.

The number of the building could also be written when the street sign is located on a specific building.

4) Electrical lamps with their base in the interior of box 1.

5) Electrical wiring for the connection of the box to the electricity power supply.

6) A simple street sign, with lighting or without lighting, located on a post 8 in a corner of two streets.

7) Advertising signs of sponsors which are located under the sign 6, in post 8.

8) A post which is located on pavements and supports the signs 6 and 7.

For street signs which do not have a lit exterior surface, their exterior view is exactly the same as the street sign 2 and 3.

The lighting of the sign is also possible with molecular light. For this purpose, the sign is made of glass, where the letters 3 and the relevant device 2 are incised.

A case can be fitted on the upper part of the glass sign which contains the lamp, which when lit illuminates the incised designs and letters.

The object of this invention it is not restricted to the above mentioned example. The accomplishment of this invention is also possible in other constructive ways, methods, fittings and machinery which remain in the purposes of the present invention.

It should also being noted here that the present specification of the invention was made with reference to only a few typical examples. In this way whatever change or modification related to the shape, the figure, the dimensions, the used materials, and fittings for the construction and assembling are considered to be included in the purposes and envisages of the present specification.
