Abstract:

The present invention is provided with: a flash discharge tube (1) having an anode (9) and a cathode (10); and an auxiliary light emitting section (11) that emits light toward the cathode (10). The auxiliary light emitting section (11) has: a light receiving element (12) that measures light intensity of external light close to the flash discharge tube (1); a comparing section (13) that compares the light intensity of the light received by means of the light receiving element (12) with a predetermined threshold value at a substantially same time or just before a time when the flash discharge tube (1) emits light; and a lighting section (15) that is lit when the light intensity is lower than the predetermined threshold value on the basis of results of the comparison performed by means of the comparing section (13). Consequently, a stroboscopic device and an image pickup device, wherein the flash discharge tube (1) stably emits light irrespective of surrounding environment, are provided.
