Abstract:
The purpose of the present invention is to increase the bending strength of an automobile structural member, such as a bumper reinforcement, having an M-shaped cross-section. In this structural member for an automobile, the rigidity of the outer walls (42) of a pair of protrusion sections (32 and 34) is raised as there are steps (44) disposed thereon. By contrast, the rigidity of the inner walls (40) of the pair of protrusion sections (32 and 34) is relatively low as the inner walls (40) are still flat. Accordingly, when a collision load is imposed on the protrusion sections (32 and 34) in the protruding direction at the time of a vehicle collision, outwardly extending deformation of the pair of outer walls (42) is suppressed so that the outer walls (42) deflect under a relatively high load without said outwardly extending deformation, thereby achieving the effect of increasing the bending strength.
