Abstract:

A sub-wavelength grating optical element in which a sub-wavelength grating can exhibit its function effectively at all times. The sub-wavelength grating optical element forms an airtight space by a plurality of substrates at least one of which is formed of a transparent material. A sub-wavelength grating for controlling light is provided on at least one surface constituting the airtight space. Since the sub-wavelength grating exists in the airtight space, protrusion of the sub-wavelength grating can be protected against damage and adhesion of water or oil to the sub-wavelength grating can be prevented.
