Claims
1. A pharmaceutical composition suitable for sublingual aerosol or pump spray delivery, comprising ifenprodil, water and a polar organic solvent.
2. A pharmaceutical composition suitable for sublingual aerosol or pump spray delivery, comprising ifenprodil and a propellant.
3. A composition as claimed in claim 1 or claim 2, further comprising at least one carrier.
4. A composition as claimed in any preceding claim, which comprises an alcohol or glycol.
5. A composition as claimed in claim 4, which comprises propylene glycol.
6. A composition as claimed in claim 4 or claim 5, which comprises ethanol.
7. A composition as claimed in claim 4 or claim 5, which comprises castor oil.
8. A composition as claimed in any preceding claim, further comprising a buffer.
9. A composition as claimed in claim 8, wherein the buffer is citrate.
10. A composition as claimed in any preceding claim, which further comprises an organic surfactant.

A composition as claimed in claim 10, wherein the organic surfactant is oleyl alcohol, sorbitan trioleate, sorbitan monooleate, sorbitan monolaurate, polyoxyethylene (20) sorbitan monolaurate, polyoxyethylene (20) sorbitan mono oleate, natural lecithin, oleyl polyoxyethylene (2) ether, stearyl polyoxethylene ^2) ether, plural polyoxethylene (4) ether, block copolymers of oxyethylene or oxpropylene, oleic acid, synthetic lecithin, diethylene glycodioleate, tetrahydrofurfuryl oleate, ethyl oleate, isopropol myristate, glycerol monooleate, glycerol mono stearate, glycerol monoricinoleate, cetyl alcohol, stearyl alcohol, cetyl pridimium chloride, olive oil, glycerol monolaurate, corn oil, cotton seed oil or sunflower seed oil.
12. A composition as claimed in claim 11 , wherein the surfactant is oleyl alcohol.
13. A composition as claimed in any preceding claim, wherein the ifenprodil is in the form of the free base.
14. A composition as claimed in any preceding claim, further comprising a flavouring agent.
15. A composition as claimed in any preceding claim, further comprising a lubricating agent for a metered dose delivery system.
16. A composition according to claim 14 or claim 15, which comprises menthol.
17. 17 A composition as claimed in any preceding claim, wherein the ifenprodil is substantially single enantiomer ()fftreoifenprodil.
18. A composition as claimed in any preceding claim, for therapeutic use. 8 .
19. Use of ifenprodil in the preparation of an aerosol or pump spray pharmaceutical formulation suitable for administration to a patient via the sublingual route, for the treatment of a condition for which the ifenprodil is effective.
20. Use as claimed in claim 19, wherein said formulation has a composition as claimed in claim 18.
21. A device for providing pharmaceutical doses, comprising a container filled with a composition as claimed in claim 18 and a valve adapted to deliver aerosol or pump spray doses of said composition.
22. A device as claimed in claim 20, which is a metered dose delivery system.
