Abstract:
A submerged arc welding apparatus (10) has a flux receiver (12) for receiving
and holding a flux in an area formed therein by itself and an object (1) to be welded
when its opened side part abuts on the object (1), a flux feeder (24) for feeding
the flux into the flux receiver (12), a welding torch (32) whose one end is disposed
in the area in which the flux is held and feeding a welding wire (34) toward the object
(1), and a moving mechanism (36) for moving the flux receiver (12) and the welding
torch (32) along a weld line (2) of the object (1) with the flux receiver (12) abutting
on the object (1). A submerged arc welding method performs welding by moving
the welding torch (32) along the weld line (2) with the welding torch (32) facing
the object (1) and the flux (11) held in an area formed between the object (1) and
the welding torch (32).
