Abstract:
The present invention relates to a submodule of a power converter that bypasses a fault current when a failure occurs in the submodule of the power converter. The submodule of a power converter, according to one embodiment of the present invention, comprises: an energy storage unit; at least one power semiconductor circuit connected in parallel to the energy storage unit and composed of a plurality of power semiconductor switches and freewheeling diodes; an auxiliary switching element connected to the energy storage unit and turned on in the event of a failure to conduct a current from the energy storage unit; and a main switching element that is connected in series to an output terminal of the auxiliary switch element and disposed between two output terminals connected to one of the at least one power semiconductor circuit, wherein the main switching element is short-circuited inside by a forced failure caused by a voltage generated by the energy storage unit through the auxiliary switch, thereby connecting the output terminals.
