Abstract:
An insertion shoe (122) for retrofitting an undersea pipeline (110) to permit passage therethrough of a scraper (110) includes a plate (126) sized to cover an opening (116) in a branch connection (120) of the pipeline and an inner surface structured to match the inner surface surrounding the opening. The insertion shoe (122) can be installed in the branch connection (120) to protect the opening without lifting the pipeline above water, so that the scraper may pass through without becoming jammed.
