The purpose of the present disclosure is to provide a substitute steel pipe column and a steel pipe column rebuilding method that reduce the man-hours of rebuilding construction of a steel pipe column without hindering future removal of the steel pipe column. To achieve the foregoing, a substitute steel pipe column according to the present disclosure is a substitute steel pipe column that is substituted for a portion of the ground surface side of a tubular existing steel pipe column installed on the ground surface. The substitute steel pipe column is provided with: a tapered section which is a truncated cone cylinder that has a center axis perpendicular to two bottom surfaces and that supports the existing steel pipe column by a side surface of the truncated cone contacting an inner surface of the existing steel pipe column; and a cylinder section that shares, as a bottom surface, an outer circumference circle of the bottom surface having the larger area of the two bottom surfaces, that is an orthogonal cylinder having another bottom surface on the side opposite the tapered section, and that is fixed to the ground surface.
