Abstract:

A compound represented by the general formula (I): (I) [wherein A is phenyl, etc.; R¹ is R^1a (R^1a is substituted alkyl, etc.), -Z^1b-R^1b (R^1b is substituted alkyl, etc. and Z^1b is -NH-, etc.), -Z^1c-R^1c (R^1c has the same meaning as R^1b or is alkyl and Z^1c is -C≡C-, etc.), -N(R^1b)(R^1c), etc.; R² and R³ each is hydrogen, optionally substituted alkyl, OH, etc.; R⁴ and R⁵ each is hydrogen, optionally substituted alkyl, OH, etc.; X is OH or alkoxy; and Y is optionally substituted alkyl, etc., provided that when Y is a specific group and A is phenyl, then R⁴ and R⁵ each is hydrogen and -C(CF₃)₂(X) is -C(CF₃)₂(OH) bonded to the phenyl group in the 3- or 4-position thereof] or a pharmacologically acceptable salt or ester of the compound. They are highly active in bonding to LXR and are useful as a medicine for warm-blooded animals (especially for the human), preferably as a medicine for treatments for and/or prevention of arteriosclerosis, hyperlipemia, inflammatory diseases, diabetes, etc.
