Abstract:
The objective of the invention is to provide a substrate surface modification method that allows for the simple modification of a surface region comprising metal atoms highly selectively and at a high density, and also to provide a composition and a polymer. The present invention provides a substrate surface modification method comprising a step of coating a first composition on the surface of a substrate comprising metal atoms on the surface layer thereof, and a step of heating the coating film formed in the coating step, wherein the first composition comprises a first polymer and a solvent, and the first polymer has, at an end of the main chain or at the end of a sidechain, at least one first functional group selected from the group consisting of a group represented by formula (1), a group containing a carbon-carbon triple bond, and a group containing an aromatic hydroxyl group. In formula (1), R1 represents a hydrogen atom or a monovalent organic group having 1 to 20 carbons. n represents an integer from 1 to 10.
