Title:
SUCCINIC ACID AND PROCESS FOR PRODUCING SAME
Document Type and Number:
WIPO Patent Application WO/2010/035837
Kind Code:
A1
Abstract:
Disclosed is highly pure succinic acid which is produced from a fermentation solution produced by a fermentation process utilizing a microorganism and is useful as a food material or a raw material for a polymer or a dicarboxylic acid derivative.  The process for producing the succinic acid is characterized by: inducing a succinic acid component from a biomass resource and carrying out the hydrogenation treatment of the succinic acid component in the presence of a catalyst to remove any odorous component from the succinic acid component; and/or removing any impurity from the succinic acid component so that the average absorbance of the succinic acid component in the ultraviolet ray region of 250 to 300 nm becomes 0.05 or lower.
