Title:
SUPER-HIGH PRESSURE MERCURY LAMP
Document Type and Number:
WIPO Patent Application WO/2008/010542
Kind Code:
A1
Abstract:
A super-high pressure mercury lamp in which wear of electrode is reduced even when the temperature of an electrode on the opening side of the reflector of a light emitting tube rises higher than the temperature of an electrode on the neck side of the reflector, thereby causing a temperature difference between the electrodes of the light emitting tube. An AC lighting system super-high pressure mercury lamp (10) comprises a light emitting tube (1) having a first electrode (3a) located on the opening (20) side of a reflector (5) and a second electrode (3b) on the neck (5a) side of the reflector (5) and filled with mercury. When the super-high pressure mercury lamp (10) is lighted by supplying an AC lamp current, a current pulse of the same polarity as that of the AC lamp current is superposed on the AC lamp current, and the pulse width of the current pulse to the first electrode (3a) is made larger than the pulse width of the current pulse to the second electrode (3b).
