A superconducting cable (1) having a superconductor (60), two or more coolant channels including an outward coolant passage (12) and a return coolant passage (14) for channeling a coolant for cooling the superconductor, and an insulated tube (10) within which the superconducting conductor (60) and the coolant channels are formed. The coolant channels are configured so that: a double tube comprising an inner tube (6) and an outer tube (8) forms the outward coolant passage (12) in the space within the inner tube (6), and the return coolant passage (14) in the space between the inner tube (6) and the outer tube (8); the inner tube (6) between the outward coolant passage (12) and the return coolant passage (14) is formed from a thermal insulator; the superconductor (60) is provided on the outer peripheral side of the inner tube (6); and the superconductor is cooled by the coolant channeled through the return coolant passage.
