Abstract:
It is desirable to detect a quench in a superconducting coil at an early stage while suppressing the effects of noise generated during charging and discharging of the coil. The superconducting coil quench detector detects a balance voltage in a bridge circuit formed with a superconducting coil and resistors and outputs same as a quench detection signal for detecting a quench in the superconducting coil. A signal indicating a retention time for retaining the energy accumulated in the superconducting coil is generated. A signal contained within the retention time is extracted out of the quench detection signal. The quench in the superconducting coil is detected based on the extracted signal.
