Abstract:
A surface-coated cBN sintered body according to the present invention comprises a cBN sintered body and a coating film that covers the surface of the cBN sintered body. The cBN sintered body contains cBN particles and a binder. The ratio of the cBN particles in the cBN sintered body is more than 80% by volume but 98% by volume or less; and the binder contains a first compound that is formed from at least one of Al and Cr and at least one element selected from the group consisting of N, B and O. The coating film comprises a layer A that is in contact with the cBN sintered body. The layer A is configured from Alx1Cry1Mz1Ca1Nb1Oc1 (wherein M is one or more elements selected from among Ti, V, Nb and Si; 0.25 ≤ x1 ≤ 0.75; 0.25 ≤ y1 ≤ 0.75; 0 ≤ z1 ≤ 0.5; (x1 + y1 + z1) = 1; 0 ≤ a1 ≤ 0.5; 0.5 ≤ b1 ≤ 1; 0 ≤ c1 ≤ 0.1; and (a1 + b1 + c1) = 1).
