Title:
SURFACE-COATED CUTTING TOOL HAVING EXCELLENT CHIPPING RESISTANCE AND WEAR RESISTANCE
Document Type and Number:
WIPO Patent Application WO/2017/159731
Kind Code:
A1
Abstract:
Provided is a surface-coated cutting tool having an excellent chipping resistance and wear resistance. A surface-coated cutting tool in which a hard coating layer including at least a TiCN layer is provided on the tool base surface, wherein (a) when the average composition of the TiCN layer is represented by the composition formula TiCxN1-x, the expression 0.05 ≤ X ≤ 0.2 (where X is the atomic ratio) is satisfied, (b) when the vertical cross section of the TiCN layer is observed, convex features are formed on the surface of the layer, and the internal structure of the convex features comprises modified droplets; (c) the modified droplets have a longitudinal cross-section composite structure comprising concave-shaped solidified metal particles having an opening facing upwards and TiCN crystal grains filling the interior region of the solidified metal particles; (d) in the longitudinal-cross-section composite structure of the modified droplets, 60-80% of the peripheral length of the TiCN crystal grains filling the interior region of the solidified metal particles is in contact with the inner periphery of the solidified metal particles, preferably the average value of the maximum diameter of the convex features formed on the surface of the TiCN layer is 0.5-1.5 μm and the maximum diameter of at least 90% of all convex features is in the range of 0.5-3.0 μm, and further, the TiCN layer preferably has a columnar structure in which the TiCN crystal grains are intertwined and grown in the layer thickness direction.
