Abstract:
This surface-coated cutting tool (10) is provided with a substrate (11) and with a coating film (12) that is formed upon the substrate. The coating film includes an α-Al2O3 layer, the α-Al2O3 layer includes a plurality of α-Al2O3 crystal grains, and the grain boundaries of the crystal grains include CSL grain boundaries and general grain boundaries. The α-Al2O3 layer is (001)-oriented at a rake face (1) side and at flank face (2) sides. In the α-Al2O3 layer at the rake face side, the length LR3 of the Σ3 crystal grain boundaries is greater than 80% of the length LR3-29 of the Σ3-29 crystal grain boundaries and is 10%-50% of the total length LR of all the grain boundaries. In the α-Al2O3 layer at the flank face sides, the length LF3 of the Σ3 crystal grain boundaries is greater than 80% of the length LF3-29 of the Σ3-29 crystal grain boundaries and is 10%-50% of the total length LF of all the grain boundaries. The ratio LR3/LR3-29 of length LR3 to length LR3-29 is smaller than the ratio LF3/LF3-29 of length LF3 to length LF3-29.
