Abstract:
A surface-coated cutting tool is provided with a substrate and a coating film formed on the substrate. The coating film includes an α-Al2O3 layer comprising a plurality of α-Al2O3 crystal grains. The α-Al2O3 layer comprises a lower layer section arranged on the substrate side, an intermediate section arranged on the lower layer section, and an upper layer section arranged on the intermediate section. When an electron backscatter diffraction device is used to perform crystal orientation mapping on the polished surface of a cross section of the α-Al2O3 layer, the area ratio of (001)-oriented α-Al2O3 crystal grains is less than 35% in the lower layer section, the area ratio of (001)-oriented α-Al2O3 crystal grains is 35% or more in the intermediate section, the area ratio of (001)-oriented α-Al2O3 crystal grains is less than 35% in the upper layer section, the thickness of the α-Al2O3 layer is 4-18 µm, the thickness of the intermediate section occupies 50% or more of the thickness of the α-Al2O3 layer, and the lower layer section and the upper layer section each have a thickness of 1 µm or more.
