Abstract:
Provided are a surface-coated lustrous pigment capable of imparting an excellent sense of luster without reducing the water resistance or weathering resistance, and a lustrous coating composition containing the same. A surface-coated lustrous pigment obtained by coating the surface of a lustrous pigment (i) with a silane coupling agent, the outermost layer being a layer containing an oxide of at least one metal selected from Si, Ti, Zr, Zn, Fe, and Al, wherein the surface-coated lustrous pigment is characterized in that the silane coupling agent contains an amino group-containing alkoxysilane (iii) and an alkyltrialkoxysilane (ii) having a C1-22 alkyl group, the alkyltrialkoxysilane (ii) content being 0.01-50% by mass, and the amino group-containing alkoxysilane (iii) content being 0.01-50% by mass, in terms of the mass of the lustrous pigment (i).
