Abstract:
Provided is a surface cutting tool that maintains excellent anti-chipping properties and wear-resistance properties over a long period of time even if used for, for example, high-speed intermittent cutting of an alloy steel and the like. This surface cutting tool is provided with a hard coating layer on a surface of a tool base body, wherein the surface cutting tool is characterized in that: (a) the hard coating layer contains at least a Ti/Al complex carboxynitride layer having an average layer thickness of 3.0-20.0 μm; (b) the Ti/Al complex carboxynitride layer includes crystal grains having an NaCl-type face-centered cubic structure; and (c) if the composition of the Ti/Al complex carboxynitride is represented by formula (Ti1-xAlx)(CyN1-y-zOz), then 0.60 ≤ x ≤ 0.95, 0.010 ≤ y ≤ 0.050, and 0.060 ≤ z ≤ 0.100 are satisfied.
