Abstract:
A surface grinder (80) provided with: a grinding belt (1) having a grinding layer on the outer surface thereof; a driving unit (2) for the grinding belt (1); a flat surface supporting unit (21) for supporting the grinding belt flat in a grinding zone for glass plates (20); holding/pressing units (31) for holding the glass plates (20) to be ground and pressing the glass plates thus held toward the outer surface of the grinding belt (1) supported flat by the flat surface supporting unit (21); and, further, a unit (61) for swinging the glass plates (20) relative to the grinding belt (1), the glass plates (20) being supported by the holding/pressing units (31) in the direction parallel with a plane on which the grinding belt (1) is supported by the surface supporting unit (21) and across the direction of running of the grinding belt (1).
