Abstract:
Provided are a surface-modified resin film which does not necessitate any conventional surface modification treatment, e.g., hydrophilization treatment, a process for easily producing the film, a polarizer formed using the film, and a liquid-crystal display device.
The surface-modified resin film comprises a resin film base and a fine fibrous substance contained in a surface thereof, and is characterized in that at least some of the lateral surfaces or ends of the fine fibrous substance are exposed on the surface of the surface-modified resin film and that the average free energy of the surface of the surface-modified resin film which contains the fine fibrous substance differs by 10% or more from the average free energy of the surface of the resin film base which does not contain the fine fibrous substance, due to the incorporation of the fine fibrous substance.
