Abstract:
Provided is a surface-treated steel sheet (1) for battery containers, comprising: a steel sheet (11); an iron-nickel diffusion layer (12) formed upon the steel sheet (11); and a nickel layer (14) formed upon the iron-nickel diffusion layer (12) and constituting the uppermost surface layer. The surface-treated steel sheet (1) for battery containers has an iron-nickel diffusion layer (12) thickness of 0.04-0.31 µm, said thickness being the difference (D2 - D1) between the depth (D1) at which the Fe strength reaches a first prescribed value and the depth (D2) at which the Ni strength reaches a second prescribed value when the Fe strength and the Ni strength are continuously measured from the surface of the surface-treated steel sheet (1) for battery containers, in the depth direction, by using a high-frequency glow discharge emission spectrometer. The total amount of nickel included in the iron-nickel diffusion layer (12) and the nickel layer (14) is 10.8-26.7 g/m2.
