Abstract:
[Problem] To provide: a surface-treated steel sheet for battery containers, which exhibits excellent processability, while maintaining the battery characteristics and liquid leakage resistance.
[Solution] A surface-treated steel sheet for battery containers according to the present invention is provided with an Ni-Co-Fe system diffusion alloy plating layer on at least one surface of a base steel sheet; the diffusion alloy plating layer is composed of an Ni-Fe alloy layer and an Ni-Co-Fe alloy layer, which are arranged sequentially from the base steel sheet side; the diffusion alloy plating layer has an Ni adhesion amount within the range of from 3.0 g/m2 (inclusive) to 8.74 g/m2 (exclusive) and a Co adhesion amount within the range of from 0.26 g/m2 (inclusive) to 1.6 g/m2 (inclusive), with the total of the Ni adhesion amount and the Co adhesion amount being less than 9.0 g/m2; the surface of the diffusion alloy plating layer contains, in atom%, 19.5-60% of Co, 0.5-30% of Fe and 20-70% of (Co + Fe) as analyzed by X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy; and the thickness of the Ni-Fe alloy layer is within the range of 0.3-1.3 μm.
