The present invention relates, inter alia, to a surface treatment agent for metal cord, wherein the surface treatment agent contains at least one azole compound selected from the group consisting of triazole compounds represented by chemical formula (I) and tetrazole compounds represented by chemical formula (II), and to a metal cord having a chemical conversion coating film, a composite, and a metal cord-containing tire. (In formula (I), R1 and R2, which may be the same as or may differ from each other, represent a hydrogen atom, halogen atom, C1-17 straight chain or branched chain alkyl group, hydroxy group, aldehyde group, carboxy group, nitrile group, possibly substituted amino group, nitro group, hydrazino group, or -N(CH2OH)2. R3 and R4, which may be the same as or may differ from each other, represent a hydrogen atom, C1-17 straight chain or branched chain alkyl group, possibly substituted amino group, or -N(CH2OH)2. Y represents a C1-10 alkylene group or -Sx-. x represents an integer from 1 to 10.　In formula (II), R5 represents a hydrogen atom, C1-17 straight chain or branched chain alkyl group, possibly substituted amino group, or phenyl group.)
