Abstract:
A surge device (10) providing a vent (20) for bleeding pressure off an air drilled well (12) and providing connectors (16A and 16B) for surge lines (18A and 18B) in the blooie line (14). The surge device (10) has a hollow, abrasion resistant, tapered chamber (24) into which two surge lines (18A and 18B) and the blow down line (20) enter the surge device (10). The device (10) is provided with a flange (26A and 26B) at each end (28A and 28B) of the chamber (24) for attaching the device (10) into a blooie line (14) with the narrow end (28A) of the tapered chamber (24) attached to the downstream end (14D) of the blooie line (14) and an enlarged end (28B) of the tapered chamber (24) attached to the upstream end (14U) of the blooie line (14). An abrasion resistant shield pipe (40) penetrating the enlarged end (28B) of the tapered chamber (24) and extending into the tapered chamber (24) a sufficient distance to serve as a shield for the terminal ends (42A and 42B) of the surge lines (18A and 18B) and the blow down line (20).
