Abstract:
A surgical system is provided which can increase the range of motion of the tip of a surgical tool even when the surgical tool is inserted into a narrow region, such as that between two ribs. This surgical system is provided with manipulators (3), surgical tools (42) which comprise a shaft linked to the distal end of the manipulators, an operation input unit (50) to which the operator inputs commands relating to the position and orientation of the surgical tools, a control device (6) which controls the actions of the manipulator on the basis of commands inputted by the operation input unit, and a motion center position configuring unit which configures in the control device a desired position inside of the body surface of the patient as the motion center position of the surgical tools, wherein, after a surgical tool (42) has been arranged such that the shaft passes through the motion center position, when controlling the manipulators (3) on the basis of commands inputted to the operation input unit, the control device (6) controls operation of the manipulators so as to change the position and orientation of the surgical tools while maintaining the state in which the shaft is positioned in the motion center position.
