Abstract:

To provide a practical suspension device for a vehicle, a projection displacement permitting mechanism is installed in a suspension device (10) for a vehicle. The suspension device (10) has a damping force generating device (12) having a vehicle body side unit (34) that is installed so as to project upward from an installation section (16) provided on a part of a vehicle body. The projection displacement permitting mechanism permits displacement of at least the projecting portion of the vehicle side unit so that the amount of projection of the projecting portion is reduced. The projection displacement permitting mechanism is formed into a structure, for example, where downward movement of the vehicle body side unit is prohibited by a pin (52) of a solenoid (50), in which the prohibition of the movement of the vehicle body side unit is removed by pulling out the pin, by excitation of the solenoid, to permit the downward movement of the vehicle body side unit. Because of the mechanism a gap between an upper end section of the damping force generating device and a hood (90) provided above the installation section can be increased, and impact applied from the above to the hood can be effectively cushioned using the expanded space.
