Abstract:
On and off operations of an NMOS (22) cause a DC voltage (EO) to be charged into a capacitor (24) and also cause a DC output voltage (VO), which is to be supplied to a load (L) by a DC/DC converting circuit (30), to be charged into a capacitor (34). A load state determining circuit (40) determines whether the load (L) is in a light load state or a non-light load state, and outputs a signal (S40) as a determination signal. When the load state determining circuit (40) outputs a signal of 'L' (S41) as a signal indicating that the load (L) is in the light load state, a time period setting circuit (41) outputs a signal of 'L' (S41) after a predetermined time period elapses. A PFC on/off switch circuit (42) receives the signal of 'L' (S41) to output a control signal of 'L' (S25) to a power factor improving circuit (20). Accordingly, if the load (L) gets into the light load state, the operation of the power factor improving circuit (20) stops after the predetermined time period elapses.
