Provided is a switching power supply that has low loss and few components, and is capable of suppressing surge voltage. The switching power supply is provided with: a converter (14) for transforming AC voltage converted by a bridge circuit (13), and outputting the transformed voltage from the center tap of secondary coils (L2, L3); and two second switches (M6, M5) for causing both ends of the secondary coils (L2, L3) to contact and separate from a fixed potential. Therein, the two switches (M6, M5) each turn on and off, and a rectified DC voltage is outputted from the center tap. The switching power supply is further provided with: two diodes (D1, D2) that are connected to both ends of the secondary coils (L2, L3), and respectively conduct the current from both ends thereof; a capacitor (C2) for storing the conducted current; and a third switch (M7) connected between the capacitor (C2) and the center tap. Turning the third switch (M7) on causes power to be discharged from the capacitor (C2) to a smoothing circuit (L5).
