2.- A system of controlled shoe upper sides lasting as in claim 1, characterized in that the retaining of the shoe upper (7) in the proper position on the last during the initial operation phase, is achieved by means of regulation of the stroke of the bottom cylinders (10) in advance and in such a way that the first point of geometric contact, of the elastic tubular pressure means (4), being at the shoe upper sides point (11) and following application of compressed air on said cylinders (3) the last/upper are enclosed by the system, while by means of supplying air through supply holes (12) whereby the necessary surface pressure being retained at the same time, said shoe upper/last firm grip-embracing is achieved.

3.- A system of controlled shoe upper sides lasting, as in claims 1 and 2 characterized in that, the elimination of either wrinkle or distortion problems is achieved during the second operation phase by application of gradually increased pressures, -depending on the shoe upper materials,- being applied in both the elastic tubular pressure means (4) and the cylinders (3) in a time delayed sequence, whereby canceling of the backlash force created by said elastic tubular means (4) occurs due to its full expansion, so that the shoe upper materials (7) to be pushed gradually and incrementally onto the last and the shoe upper free ends to be folded onto the insole adhesion region (14) bearing a suitable adhesive.

Finally a high pressure, depending on the materials, is gradually applied both in the elastic tubular pressure means (4) and through a controlled time delay the cylinders (3) in order for them to act as balancing mechanisms and the backlash force created by the elastic tubular means (4) to be canceled due to its full expansion.

With the process described above and the fully adjustable timings and pressure sequences, the retaining of the shoe upper top line position is achieved, as well as, the gradual compression of materials without the creation of wrinkles, breakings etc up to the adhesion point (14).

Description:

SYSTEM OF CONTROLLED SHOE UPPER SIDES LASTING PROVIDING RETAINING OF THE SHOE UPPER TOPLINE POSITION

The present invention refers to a system of controlled lasting of side parts of a toe lasted shoe upper, being capable of retaining the shoe upper top line in the desired position on the last, providing thus the straight line of said shoe upper top line and a firm grip of the shoe upper materials/last, with no distortions of any kind being created, that is invented, designed, produced and distributed in the market exclusively by us.

It is widely known that the present technical level for shoe side lasting is limited to systems providing a shoe upper material/last proximity only to some extent, mainly due to their design, since in practice, the shoe upper material is basically either folded on the lasting margin, with no tension applied on it, or alternatively, by use of either means of some pincer mechanisms, or rotating screws, being applied always on the lasting margin, - i.e. the material strip being folded and attached on the insole for the formation of the shoe without the sole -, while mechanisms of vertically pulling forces are created at the same time, although providing a shoe upper material/last proximity to a limited extend on one hand, they result to ruining of shoe upper top line leveling on the other, thus leading to requirement of an additional setup prior to side lasting, usually being realized by fixing of an extra piece of material on said shoe upper top line, being firmly attached on the last and having to be removed following termination of said process, this resulting anyway, to a time consuming and inferior quality process, due to the limited mechanical strength of the materials involved. There has been no practical solution up today, since all machines and their systems known are only capable of exerting all relevant forces near the insole area and are intended for folding the shoe upper material onto the insole only, providing no firm grip-embracing shoe upper materials/last whatsoever, all the way from the top line to the insole and to the full length of the shoe.

The purpose of this invention is to eliminate all disadvantages and problems related to the existing technical level, by presenting a totally new technology being materialized by means of a system, characterized in being capable of lasting shoe upper sides of any kind on a last, regardless of shoe upper material utilized, providing a perfect grip-embracing of said shoe upper materials/last in any case, while retaining the shoe upper top line leveling nature at the same time and suitable of being embedded in various types of machines such as, sides and seat lasting machines, sides lasting machines and hybrid toe lasting and sides lasting machines.

With the system of the present invention, holding of shoe upper top line in the desired position on the last, is provided in the beginning of each operation cycle, this being a very important process leading to retaining of the shoe upper top line leveling, which followed by a gradual shoe upper materials

pushing on the last and applied with a direction towards the lasting margin, leads to a controlled lasting process with no shoe upper material distortion such as wrinkles, stretching, surface braking or even shoe upper material delaminating.

The side lasting system of this invention will be further understood by reference to the accompanying drawings, were the system is displayed in an indicating and not restricting materialization where : Figure 1, displays a side view of the side lasting system in a neutral position.

Figure 2, displays a side view of the side lasting system, in a random operation step.

Figure 3, displays a section view of the side lasting system, in a random operation step.

Figure 4, displays a side view of the side lasting system with the sequence beginning.

Figure 5, displays a section view of the side lasting system with the sequence ending, and Figure 6, displays a top view of the side lasting system in a neutral position.

In detail, the side lasting system consists of four lower cylinders (10), two compression cylinders (3), bearing a properly shaped base (9) fixed on their end rods, for housing of four cylinders (1) by means of another base (2) acting as a guide, said base (2) bearing a controlled pressure elastic tubular means (4) housed internally and an elastic mold (8) in between having a general shape, for being suitable for all types of shoe uppers.

The housing of mold (8), as well as the housing of the last together with the shoe upper to be processed, are carried out according to any way known to the skilled, providing the inclination and angle settings required.

The side lasting system of this invention may be adjusted in relation to the position of the bottom cylinders (10), for being capable for a wide range of adjustments covering all lasts known, so that the first point of geometric contact of the elastic tubular pressure means (4) to always be the top line (11) of the shoe upper to be processed, whereby by means of a proper low pressure air supply, said mold (8) of an appropriate hardness to be displaced and pushed, while this way the width of contact is also controlled at the same time.

Given that, the first contact point always being the top line of the last- upper, by continuing the cylinders' stroke (3) a progressive compression is applied on all the shoe upper materials, thus being directed towards the insole and while said cylinders (3) being in contact with the last and by supplying the elastic tubular pressure means (4) with a correct high air pressure, during the final steps of the lasting sequence, the shoe upper materials are pushed onto the lasting margin bearing an adhesive substance, pre-applied by either manual or automatic means.

The shoe upper materials/last proximity being the result of application of a gradual sectional millimetric compression of the materials, beginning from the position of retaining-compression of the shoe upper top line, which followed

by a gradual compression up to the lasting margin, leads to a perfect result optically, without either the need of a time consuming preparation, or of further processing and material distortions of any kind. OPERATION

Prior to initiating the first working cycle, the stroke of the bottom cylinders (10) is adjusted in such a way that the first contact point of the elastic tubular pressure means (4) is the shoe upper sides point (11), then by directing compressed air to the cylinders (3) the system is forced to enclose the last, while the necessary pressure is applied through the supply holes (12) at the same time and in such a volume, so that the force necessary to be created in order for the shoe upper materials to be held firmly on the last.

Finally, a high pressure, -depending on the materials processed-, is gradually applied both in the elastic tubular pressure means (4) and the cylinders (3) through a controlled time delay, said acting as balancing mechanisms as well as, eliminating means of the backlash force being created by the elastic tubular means (4), due to its full expansion.

By the process described above and the fully adjustable timings and pressures' sequence, the retaining of the shoe upper top line position, as well as, the gradual compression of materials are achieved, with the creation of no wrinkles, breakings etc up to the adhesion point (14).
