Abstract:

Apparatus for dispersing a first fluid in a second fluid includesa permeable body (22) with a recess (46) for receiving the fluid.The second fluid can flow from the recess (46) through the permeable body (22) to the exterior of the body (22). A housing (26) surrounding and spaced from the permeable body (22) has an inlet (26) for a second fluid and a outlet (30) for a mixture of the first and second fluids. A baffle (64) in the space between the body (22) and housing (26). Methods for using the apparatus include passing material from the first fluid to the second fluid and subsequently through a further body (22) to a third fluid and flowing liquid on the low pressure side of the body (22) under turbulent conditions.
