Abstract:
The disclosed system is provided with: a biomass supply unit (12) that supplies a biomass feedstock (11) at normal pressure or under pressure, said biomass feedstock containing cellulose, a hemicellulose, and lignin; a hydrothermal decomposition unit (17) that uses a screw means (14) to transport the supplied biomass feedstock upwards inside a device body (13) from below, supplies hot compressed water (15) into the device body (13) from an upper side different from where the biomass feedstock (11) is supplied from, hydrothermally decomposes the biomass feedstock while keeping the biomass feedstock (11) and the hot compressed water (15) in countercurrent contact with each other, transfers hot-water-soluble components into hot compressed water which is discharged as hot-water drainage (16), and separates out the lignin component and the hemicellulose component from the biomass feedstock; a biomass-solids extraction unit (18) that extracts biomass solids (20) from the top of the device body (13); and a slurrying tank (21) that connects to the biomass-solids extraction unit (18). Water (19) is injected into the slurrying tank and the extracted biomass solids (20) are added, forming a slurry.
