Title:
A SYSTEM AND METHOD OF CAPTURING OF BARCODE DATA
Document Type and Number:
WIPO Patent Application WO/2017/068428
Kind Code:
A1
Abstract:
Presented herein a system of collecting and presenting information through a method of downloading and streaming data including paid an unpaid audio and video formats mainly for the purposes of education, orientation, information, entertainment and advertisement of media personalities and events by capturing and scanning 2D barcodes on food containers and packages through the use of 2D barcodes with Near Field Communication (NFC) technology and a programmed hard-link to an external URL. A system of modified optical machine-reading technological methodology which captures and displays stored data relating to the information attached to the containers and other items. The methodological embodiment of the application is a process which adapts 2D barcode technology in a complex function of reading and capturing and downloading large volumes of automated data on food containers and packages for display and projection of the information on audio and video devices.

CLAIMS

The capturing and accessing of large volumes of barcode data, the system comprising;

i) Audio formats on containers and packages for the analysis of a person(s) psychological and behavioural characteristics and an event's theme and rationale, so as to assess or predict their capabilities or to identify them with a subgroup of people for an ensured detailed profiling of personalities and events

ii) Video formats on containers and packages for the analysis of a person(s) psychological and behavioural characteristics and an event's theme and rationale, so as to assess or predict their capabilities or to identify them with a subgroup of people for an ensured detailed profiling of personalities and events

iii) The use of an in-built camera to take images of or scan barcode letters written from 0-360 around or inside a container or package so as to retrieve detailed information on containers and package surfaces including plastic, Styrofoam, biodegradable, wood, metal and ceramic among others for purposes of the exclusive representation and advertisement of personalities and events in live, streaming, pre-recordable and downloadable formats for the analyses of a person's psychological and behavioural characteristics and an event's theme and rationale for the purposes of exclusive advertisement, therefore giving the applicant's invention the unique feature of advertising on a product's advertisement with the exclusive use of barcode and NFC technology,

iv) The use of barcode technology for third party advertisement wherein an advertisement of a third party can be encoded in barcode and placed on containers and packages already containing advertisement on the products they enclose.

The system of claim 1, wherein a user can access large volumes of data on a barcode within seconds of scanning the code on containers and packages.

The system of claim 1, wherein the user can access unlimited barcode data for streaming, downloading, live viewing and tuning in to paid and unpaid audio and video formats.

The system of claim 1, wherein the data captured from the barcode may include predated information such that the barcode on the product may serve as a tune-in ticket of an upcoming event.

The system of claim 1, wherein the application makes use of a device's television signal receiving feature and as such functions a system for converting visual images (usually with sound) into electrical signals, transmitting them by radio or other means, and displaying them electronically on a screen within seconds.

A method of using a system of claim 1 wherein a device uses an in-built camera to take images of or scan barcode letters written from 0-360 around or inside a container or package by either temporarily focusing the camera of the device on a container or package at different angles and either touching the device to the barcode or bringing them into proximity at a distance of typically 10cm or less using the information on the containers and packages to transfer data from container to the electronic device.

Description:
A SYSTEM AND METHOD OF CAPTURING OF BARCODE DATA

DESCRIPTION

Background

Barcode reading technologies generally use laser scanners to capture small amounts of data on items and log the information onto a centralized record on a computer system that identifies and tracks products, prices, and stock levels. The data basically contains three kinds of information; the first part normally indicates the country where it was issued, the next part identifies the manufacturer of the product and the final part identifies the product itself.

Prior art on 2D barcode systems include personalized storytelling, processing payment for online payments, facilitating mobile device payments using mobile payment account, mobile barcode and universal digital mobile currency, delivering customizable personalized digital events by executing computer-executing instructions stored on a non-transistory computer readable medium, providing dynamic time dependent results, issuing payment cards via mobile communication network and a method of terminal, server device and system of verification control. The prior art have nothing on audio video adaptations to other devices. The technological methodological software herein gives a more detailed profile on the item to which the code is attached opening an unlimited window of information including audio and video streaming and downloading options in addition, thereby presenting the user with flexibility and freedom to access data and information, enabling access to a wider variety of choice and options by scanning the bar code on the container, package or advertisement on the product, the user immediately receives information including detailed profile on media personalities and creating awareness of events across an array of industries, from healthcare to government to manufacturing, through which the consumer is enabled with the opportunity to access paid and unpaid audio and video extensions of the personalities and events in a matter of seconds and micro seconds (depending on the device used).

105 GENERAL DISCRETION

The application herein involves using video cameras in camera equipped devices to take an instant digital photograph of the barcode. The

110 in-built computer in the reading device then analyzes the photograph, picking out only the barcode part of it and converting the pattern of black and white bars into figures. The data retrieved from the figures are then processed and

115 converted to appear as detailed information which may include audio and video formats. Unlike the already existing types, the technological methodology herein does to greater extents, more complex analysis and

120 processing at higher and quicker rates and as such enables the display device to process much larger volumes and more sophisticated formats of data including audio and video formats with the unprecedented use of 3 rd party barcode

125 advertisement where a product's advert on its container can contain other advertisement of personalities or events.

DETAILED DISCRETION

The application herein enables devices with inbuilt cameras to take images of or to scan barcode letters written from 0-360 round and inside an item or product. An in-built computer in the device then processes and analyzes the data read on the barcode. The device then translates the code to information, presenting the user with a variety of options on what to do with the information which may include audio and video format. The application mainly uses 2D barcode systems including Quick Response (QR) code which is a two-dimensional (2D) matrix barcode. The QR code uses four standardized encoding modes (numeric, alphanumeric, byte / binary, and kanji) to efficiently store data in NFC technology, which uses a set of protocol to enable electronic devices to establish radio communication with each other by touching the devices together, or bringing them into proximity up to a distance of typically 10cm or less, using the information on the containers and packages to transfer data from container to device. The application herein allows devices which support URL redirection to capture and retrieve large volumes of information online via a programmed hard-link to an external URL. QR codes can be used on various mobile devices and operating systems. These devices support URL redirection, which allow QR codes to send metadata to existing applications on the device. A number of paid or free apps are available with the ability to scan the codes and retrieve information but non with the ability to hard-link to an external URL auto- download audio and video data within seconds. The system and methodology enables the user have access to in-depth advertisement and entertainment information on drinking containers, food boxes and packages including plastic, Styrofoam, biodegradable, wood, metal and ceramic in pre-recordable, downloadable and streaming data formats of religious figures, musician, sports icons, actors and politicians among, others presenting the user with a wide assortment of music, movies, podcasts and advertisements among others and also enables the user witness live entertainment and sporting events through the live streaming feature. The system herein functions as a television or radio channel, thereby allowing the user instant access to live, streaming, downloadable content and even pre-dated information such that the barcode on the product may serve as a tune-in ticket of upcoming events for the purposes of notification and advertisement by a simple flick of the wrist to focus and capture the barcode image. Alternatively at the user's discretion, the user can also be transferred to the applicant's streaming service platform, website or other open source and social media platform.
