Abstract:
A system and method for a mail document scanning and archival service performed by a mail carrier on behalf of the intended recipient. When the mail carrier receives mail addressed to a service subscriber, the mail carrier will open the mail, scan it to produce corresponding electronic documents, and perform an optical character recognition process to determine keywords to identify the electronic document. The electronic documents are then archived on an internet-accessible server in a central repository, preferably managed by the mail carrier itself, and/or delivered to the user via email or on a removable medium such as a disk, CDROM, or non-volatile memory.
