Title:
SYSTEM AND METHOD FOR DEPLOYING AN OPTICAL FIBRE WITHIN AN ELONGATED SPACE
Document Type and Number:
WIPO Patent Application WO/2015/107172
Kind Code:
A3
Abstract:
A system (2) for deploying an optical fibre (44) within an elongate space (3) comprises a tool including a first tool part (40), a second tool part (42) configured to selectively secure itself within an elongate space, and an optical fibre (44) extending from the first tool part to the second tool part. The system includes a line (10) attached to the first tool part and a winch (8) for hauling in and/or paying out the line so as to move the first tool part away from the second tool part within the elongate space to thereby deploy a length of the optical fibre along the elongate space between the first and second tool parts. The elongate space may comprise a wellbore. The elongate space may be defined within an oil well, a gas well or an injection well. Such a system may be used to deploying an optical fibre for distributed sensing measurements within an elongate space.
