Abstract:
The present invention relates to an apparatus for displaying 3D images, including a 3D-information input device, and to a method for displaying 3D images using the apparatus. According to the present invention, the 3D-information input device generates an ultrasonic signal after receiving a synchronizing signal which is the same as those used by conventional apparatuses for displaying 3D images; the apparatus for displaying 3D images receives the ultrasonic signal via ultrasonic receivers installed at a plurality of positions; the distances from the 3D-information input device to the ultrasonic receivers are measured using the periods from the point in time the synchronizing signal is generated to the point in time the ultrasonic signal is received at the ultrasonic receivers; and the actual 3D position of the 3D-information input device is measured using the measured distances. The actual 3D position of the 3D-information input device is converted into a coordinate in a 3D image space such that the position of the 3D-information input device functioning as a mouse or remote controller can be three-dimensionally indicated in a 3D image for inputting a click or menu selection information. According to the present invention, a synchronizing signal logic, which is the same as those used by conventional apparatuses for displaying 3D images, can be used, and thus a 3D remote controller or a 3D mouse can be provided without necessitating the costs of additional components.
