Abstract:
The present invention relates to a system and method for providing utterances and emotional expressions of a character, which can deliver stories, advertisements or content more clearly through a 3D character who appears in a 3D animation, 3D virtual space, advertisement for presenting messages or the like by allowing the 3D character to express emotions such as crying or laughing as well as to verbally present a given message. The system for providing utterances and emotional expressions of a character according to the present invention comprises: a circumstance recognizing part for recognizing surrounding circumstances; an utterance selecting part for selecting an utterance based on the surrounding circumstances that were recognized; an utterance image selecting part for selecting a mouth shape necessary to express the selected utterance; a facial expression selecting part for selecting a facial expression that corresponds to an emotional expression according to the surrounding circumstances that were recognized; a sound generating part for generating a sound corresponding to the selected utterance; a sentence structure analyzing part for extracting from the utterance the information about consonants and vowels necessary to make a mouth shape and then generating time information to indicate when the consonants and vowels of different mouth shapes are pronounced; a control part for controlling the synchronization of the facial expression, the mouth shape and the sound to be displayed; and an emotional expressing part for displaying the synchronized facial expression, mouth shape and sound. According to the present invention, a 2D or 3D character can show a facial expression while giving an utterance at the same time. Therefore, a variety of emotional expressions can be provided, based on the facial expression and utterance of a character.
