Abstract:
The present invention refers to a system for monitoring power consumption, especially for the home and which educates a user, especially a child, not to waste electric energy, comprising a toy provided with cameras, microphones, motion and temperature sensors connected to a computing cloud which detect power consumption in the home. Upon knowing about the power consumption, the system sends educative messages regarding energy consumption to the children by means of the toy.

C L A I M S

1 . System for monitoring power consumption comprising:

- at least one electrical connector configured to be arranged between an electric socket in a room and at least one electrical appliance, that can be coupled to said electric socket, and comprising a radio frequency transmitter configured for transmitting the information about the power consumed by the electrical appliance to:

- a toy comprising a set of sensors configured for measuring a set of parameters associated to power consumption of at least one electrical appliance in the room;

- at least one radiofrequency transceiver configured for sending the set of parameters measured by the set of sensors and the consumed power by the at least one electrical appliance, from the toy to:

- a computing cloud configured for calculating the power consumption of the electrical appliance in the room;

- wherein the toy also comprises means configured for showing a message based on the power consumption of at least one electrical appliance in the room.

2. System according to claim 1 wherein the electrical connector is configured for measuring the electric energy of an electric network and comprising a wireless router connected to the Internet.

3. System according to claim 2 wherein the electric network is connected to the computing cloud through the toy and the electrical connector.

System according to claim 3 also comprising a set of transducers which send and receive data to and from the Internet so as to interact with a software platform, wherein, among said transducers, there is an audio transducer and a microcontroller with a communication signal wireless router arranged in the toy.

5. System according to claim 4 wherein the computing clouding comprises a server, a controller for said server and a message gateway associated to one data base, wherein said message gateway delivers messages to several analysis services, which in turn send the corresponding notifications to respective users.

6. System according to claim 1 wherein the set of sensors of the toy comprises a video camera and touch-pressure sensors.

7. System according to claim 1 wherein the toy is in the form of a stuffed toy, a teddy bear or manufactured animated figure.

SYSTEM FOR MONITORING POWER CONSUMPTION

D E S C R I P T I O N

OBJECT OF THE INVENTION

The present invention refers to a system for monitoring power consumption, especially for homes, and which educates a user, especially a child, not to waste electric energy.

Particularly, the object of the invention refers to a system for monitoring power consumption comprising a toy provided with cameras, microphones, and motion and temperature sensors connected to a computing cloud, which allow detecting power consumption in the home. Upon knowing about power consumption, the system transmits educative messages regarding energy consumption to children through the toy.

BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION In the state of the art there are known systems which allow reducing power consumption in the homes, since such requirement has become a very important aspect. Saving energy is a very important issue due to the environmental effects and the increase in energy cost. Raising children awareness of the excessive power consumption that takes place daily at home is a means for reducing that power consumption. This allows not only the rational use of energy, but also formation for the citizens being conscious of the excessive energy consumption of society. One of the ways of educating in this regard is trough toys. Thus, in U.S. Pat. No. 6761563B1 granted to Lin, the authors disclose teaching mat that allows the child to get familiar with different sounds, shapes and colours.

U.S. Pat. No. US7298284B2 granted to Glime, discloses an educational clock teaching the children the concept of a period of time. These inventions basically consist of interactive toys. The present invention is a system comprising an interactive toy which raises children awareness of power consumption in the home. DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION

The present invention refers to a system for monitoring power consumption, especially for the home, and which educates a user, especially a child, not to waste electric energy.

The main objective of the system is to provide a toy which can gather information from the environment and information about power consumption of at least one electrical appliance. Another object of this invention is to provide a toy which measures the temperature, orientation, acceleration, displacement and position, among other parameters.

Another object of this invention is to provide a toy which can take images using a camera.

Another object of this invention is to provide a toy which can transmit information to a computing cloud.

Another object of this invention is to provide a toy which allows obtaining records of the consumption of at least one electrical appliance.

Another object of this invention is to provide a toy which can receive and reproduce messages. Another object of this invention is to provide an electrical connector which can measure the power consumed by an electrical appliance.

Another object of this invention is to provide an electrical connector which can transmit information about the power consumed by an electrical appliance to a toy. The system for monitoring power consumption comprises:

- at least one electrical connector configured to be arranged between an electric socket/point in a room and at least one electrical appliance, that can be coupled to said electric socket, and comprising a radio frequency transmitter configured for transmitting the information about the power consumed by the electrical appliance to:

- a toy comprising a set of sensors configured for measuring a set of parameters associated to power consumption of at least one electrical appliance in the room;

- at least one radiofrequency transceiver configured for sending the set of parameters measured by the set of sensors and the consumed power by at least one electrical appliance, from the toy to:

- a computing cloud configured for calculating the power consumption of the electrical appliance in the room;

- wherein the toy also comprises means configured for showing a message based on the power consumption of at least one electrical appliance in the room.

PREFERRED EMBODIMENT OF THE INVENTION

The following is a detailed description, with the help of the attached figures 1 and 2 referred above, of an exemplary preferred embodiment of the system for monitoring power consumption object of the present invention.

In this embodiment, the system for monitoring power consumption comprises:

- at least one electrical connector 5 configured for being arranged between an electric socket in a room and at least one electrical appliance that can be coupled to said electric socket and comprising a radiofrequency transmitter configured for transmitting the information about the power consumed by the electrical appliance to:

- a toy 200 comprising a set of sensors 1 , 2 configured for measuring a set of parameters associated to the power consumption of an electrical appliance in the room;

- at least one radiofrequency transceiver configured for sending the set of parameters measured by the set of sensors 1 , 2 and the power consumed by the at least one electrical appliance, from the toy 200 to:

- a computing cloud 400 configured for calculating the power consumption of an electrical appliance in the room;

- wherein the toy 200 also comprises means configured for showing a message based on the power consumption of the at least one electrical appliance in the room.

Preferably, the electrical connector 5 is configured for measuring the electric power of the electric network 300 and comprises a wireless router connected to the Internet.

Preferably, the toy 200 is in the form of a stuffed toy, a teddy bear or an animated figure manufactured in any suitable material, as it is shown in figure 1 .

The set of sensors of the toy 200 comprises a video camera 1 and touch-pressure sensors 2. Preferably, the system also comprises a set of transducers that send and receive data to and from the Internet so as to interact with a software platform implementing the architecture shown in figure 2, wherein, among said transducers, there is an audio transducer 3 and a microcontroller with a communication signal wireless router 4 arranged in the toy 200.

Said figure 2 shows that the computing cloud 400 comprises a server 401 , a controller 403 for said server and a message gateway 402 associated to a data base 404. Said message gateway 402 delivers the messages 402 to several analysis services 402a, 402b, 402c, which in turn send the corresponding notifications 403a, 403b, 403c to respective users 500a, 500b, 500c. The electric network 300 is connected to the computing cloud 400 through the toy 200 and the electrical connector 5.
