Description:

"SYSTEM FOR OPERATION AND MANAGEMENT OF STORYTELLING MACHINES FOR BILLS, NOTES AND SIMILAR DOCUMENTS"

The present request of patent of invention refers to a new "SYSTEM FOR OPERATION AND MANAGEMENT OF STORYTELLING MACHINES FOR BILLS, NOTES AND SIMILAR DOCUMENTS", referring particularly to a system of incomparable efficiency, made possible through software that creates tools and conditions for the perfect operation of storytelling machines of bills and similar documents, that besides the main function of counting bills and of other documents, it detects possible anomalies that, if no detected during the counting, incur mistake in the final result, still standing out for detailing the mistakes in a digital board that interacts with the user, who has the option of gagging the equipment in what refers the speed / slowing down and intrinsically adapts the machine for bills in the most varied conservation states, and the calibration is also susceptible to be accomplished by the own machine without the user's interference.

With the present system it was possible to optimize the time of processing, to increase the counting speed and to guarantee, in the condition of separation for blocks, that the machine separates the amount of bills, notes or documents exactly pre-determined by the operator, besides other countless advantages to be described along that descriptive description, facilitating, optimizing and attributing great reliability to the users' routine of all of the sections that demand the counting of bills, notes or documents.

It is known that the money just like it comes in the current days is resulted of a long evolution. In remote times there was not money, only the change that by definition is the simple merchandise change for other merchandise type that assists the needs on the sides in negotiation. Then the coin merchandise appeared, in that some goods worth more than others, as, for instance, the salt, besides other countless goods. When discovering the metal, the man started to manufacture utensils and weapons previously made in stone. For presenting particularities as the possibility of storage, divisibility, rarity and transport easiness started to be the main pattern of value to the time. Some centuries before Christ the first coins appeared with the current characteristics, conforming small metal pieces with defined weight

and value and with the impression of the official stamp, in other words, the mark of who emitted them and guarantor of their value. In the medium age, the paper coin appeared, where certain values were kept with the goldsmiths that as warranty supplied a receipt in paper. With time, such receipts started to circulate among the people for effectiveness of payments, originating the paper coin. With elapsing of the time the governments started to manufacture bills with warranty of value, executed by the central banks of the countries, each one with its monetary system. In that way, it is clear the importance from there is a lot of time of the bills in the people's lives, industry and trade, being the quantitative control of addition importance for all the involved parts, not being different with other documents, as, for instance, the money of plastic (card), tickets, etc.

Now the quantitative control can be accomplished in two ways: manual counting or automated counting as it is the case of the machines reason of this patent request. Both forms are susceptible to human and electric-mechanic mistakes respectively. That last one is due to a series of conditions of the bill, as, for instance, the conservation state, obviously different along its useful life that interferes in the machine accountant's operational part for the texture and opacity of the paper coin.

Other anomalies can interfere in the result of the counting accomplished by the machines in subject that will be denominated for larger descriptive simplicity of: short, long, middle and double.

In full detail, the mistake of short can be defined when the width of the counted document is inferior to the document taken as sample, in other words more narrow.

Similarly to the mistake of short, the mistake of long occurs when the document is longer than the counting sample.

The mistake of middle happens when it crosses the machine a document that has just touched one of the optical sensors, meaning that certain document is cut or lacking a piece.

The detection of mistake of double usually happens when two or more documents go simultaneously by the counting, what happens, in the most part of the time, when such documents are agglutinated. Documents with dirtiness can interfere in the detection of doubles.

The current technology is not capable of detecting the several patterns of anomalies or mistakes of the bills, being the same ones counted from way to present results not reliable.

The requested system becomes a powerful tool to turn those machines accountants of bills and documents full reliable.

Being like this, the system in subject applied to the machine accountant of documents offers resources to detect the anomalies, as the above mentioned, that could take the storytelling machine to present erroneous results.

As the storytelling machine is applied for the counting of several types of documents, with eminence for the counting of paper coin (bills) there was the need the system to promote the automatic calibration for the due identification of a pattern of document and, start from that pattern to detect the documents counted by the machine present some anomaly type, as richly exposed above.

Especially for the counting of paper coin, the system associated to the machine is capable to count any type of bill, even the bills of plastic as the one of ten real (Brazilian money). Besides, it perfectly operates, independent of the conservation state in that the paper coin are, being a factor of big importance.

Basically the system makes possible the counting, mistake recognition and calibration of the machine by the user or for the system itself, providing several resources, as the flow of the document along the storytelling machine, in other words, as the document began the passage for the machine, the process while the document is passing though the intermediate part of the machine and as it is accomplished the detection that the document left the counting area. Finally, the system makes available resources for detection of each one of the types of mistakes to which the documents can be subject and it concludes exposing how the problem of that bill was solved regarding its conservation state.

For a better understanding of the system, it is necessary to explain in a basic way the mechanical assembly of the storytelling machine of bills and documents that is composed by a set of traction of bills, notes or documents, a set of optical sensors and an interface for interaction with the operator, everything properly inserted in appropriate carcass.

The traction set is composed by motor of continuous chain and a series of pulleys and straps responsible for leading the bills, notes or documents to be counted through the machine. It is important to comment that the use of the motor of continuous chain enabled, by a "driver" of power in association with a PWM highlight, modulate the speed of the motor and consequently the speed of the documents counting.

Regarding the optical sensors the machine is composed by five pairs of transmitter and receiver, preferentially in infrared lightning. These pairs of sensors are mechanically mounted in the machine in strategic positions, of a way to allow the system of digital processing (the system requested here) has all the necessary data for the perfect operation of the referred system.

Of the five pairs of sensors, one of them is mounted in the entrance of bills, notes or documents in the machine and has for objective to inform to the processor if there are bills, notes or documents to be counted. A second pair of sensors is mounted on the exit portion of bills, notes or documents of the machine and has for objective to inform to the processor if there are already counted documents and not yet left the machine by the operator.

Other two pairs of sensors are located inside the machine and are used to detect the passage of the bill, note or document. To do that, it is used two symmetrical and opposite sensors, being one of the right side and another of the left side of the machine.

The last pair of sensors is positioned on one of axises of traction of the bills, notes or documents. This, together with a jagged wheel, enables to determine the width of the bills, notes or documents. The man-machine interface is constituted of an alphanumeric board and keyboard.

Although the main focus of the machine is the preferential counting of paper money, it was projected to allow the counting of several other documents. Consequently, the width of the document is not a standard that can be fitting and fastened by the manufacturer. Even in the case of accountancy just of paper money, the width of the bills can vary according to the country of origin. For illustrative purposes, Euro is wider than the Real (Brazilian money), and Dollar is narrower. Due

to this reason the system foresees a calibration resource that, basically, consists in pass by the counting mechanism determined number of bills or standard documents, so that during the passage of them, the processor, with the parameter fixed by the counting sensors to the right and to the left and by the sensor associate to the jagged wheel identifies the average width of that standard of bill, note or document that is wished count. For that procedure was adopted the passage of determined bills, notes or documents by the machine, preferentially ten, with the objective of count how many teeth of the jagged wheel are necessary so that the document crosses all the machine, so much of the left side as of the right side. At the end of the procedure, the processor is fed with data enough to calculate the average width of the bill, note or document, so much of the left side as of the right side. These values, now denominated of width accountants of the left and right side, are used to detect the possible mistakes of length.

It is worth to remark that besides the processor have the parameters of the widths of the right and left side of the bill, note or document, it is common that both the widths are next, fact only differentiated in plastic bills, as, for example, the one of ten real that owns a more transparent area. For that reason, it is recommended that the calibration of the machine to do not be accomplished with that kind of bill. For better to illustrate the system here described, the figures below are representing of illustrative and not limiting form:

More in details, the process on the passage of a bill, note or document by the storytelling machine can be divided into three basic stages. The first is the detection of the beginning of the passage of the bill, note or document by the machine, the second stage is the action of the passage of the bill, note or document by the machine and the third and last stage is the detection that the bill, note or document already passed by the machine completely.

We are admit initially that documents were added to the entrance of the machine, making the entrance sensor (S1) to be obstructed and as a consequence the traction motor to be turned on as described in the stage (1). From this point the system is in the stages (2) and (3) of flowchart. It can observe if none of the sensors is obstructed, making the system not advance to next stages. If one of the sensors is obstructed the system advances for the stages (4 to 9) if the left sensor (S2) has been obstructed, or the stages (10 to 15) if the right sensor (S3) has been obstructed. Therefore, it is enough that one of the sensors be obstructed so that the system/machine initiates the counting and anomalies detection process. Among stages (4 to 9) or (10 to 15), the system/machine waits that the contrary sensor, to which initiated the process, is obstructed. In case the second sensor wasn't obstructed and the first sensor comes back to the initial state, it characterizes a half note or document anomaly.

Among stages (16) and (24) the document is passing by the interior of the machine. During this interim, both sensors (S2) and (S3) are obstructed as described in the stage (19) and stage (20). It is also during this interim that measures the width of the bill, note or document as shown in stage (18). This stage of the process finishes when one of the sensor is not obstructed anymore. From this stage, the system advances to the stages (25 to 29), in the case of the left sensor (S2) is obstructed, or the stages (30 to 34), in the case of the right sensor (S3) is obstructed. In this stages the objective is to detect that the bill, note or document passed completely by the machine. This procedure ends when both sensors (S2 and S3) are liberated, like demonstrated in the stages (19) and (27) and the stages (20) and (32). In order to avoid false information (electric noises), the sensor (S4) which concludes the passage of the bill, note or document by the machine stage (27) or stage (32) has its state tested by at least a hundred times as shown in the stages (26, 28 and 29 or 31 , 33 and 34), for then characterizes that the document went out from the counting area.

Once known the standard of the document to be counted, according to the calibration procedure, it is possible to detect whether some bill, note or document is with mistake of short, as shown stages (40) and (42). This necessarily does not characterize a counting mistake of the machine, once that a bill, note or document

passed by the sensors and was counted, however, for being a bill, note or document out of standard, system/machine refuses this counting and highlights in the board. The width of the bill, note or document is compared, taking in consideration only the wider side of the bill, note or document (left or right) and not both sides, like demonstrated in the stages (35) (36) (37) and (38). That is easily understood due to the fact of the paper money has a plastic part, like the bill of ten real. That procedure enables that the machine doesn't refuse that kind of bill. The explanation is in the fact that such bill has a translucent region and, as there is no control of this region, if this region pass by the left sensor (S2) or of the right (S3), it proceeds only the counting of the wider side, of a way to scorn the minor counting, which certainly is the translucent side of the bill. Obviously that resource only will be effective if in the calibration are not used plastic bills.

Similarly to the detection of the mistake of short, the mistake of long in which the bill, note or document is wider than the standard used in the calibration is demonstrated in the stages (39) and (40). As commented above, this necessarily does not characterize a mistake in the counting, but a bill, note or document outside the standard and, as in the previous case the system makes the storytelling machine refuses the bill, note or document highlighting the mistake in the board.

The mistake of middle occurs when the bill, note or document just sensitizes one of the sensors of the storytelling machine, be the left sensor (S2) or the right sensor (S3). According to flowchart, the stages (2) and (4) show that kind of situation, detecting, for example, cut or torn documents that, in this case, in a illustrative way, sensitize only the left sensor (S2). Of a similar way, the stages (3) and (10 to 15) are the responsible for the detection of middle by the right side. It is a fact that, in case of the stages (5) and (11) reach the true condition, the anomaly of middle of bill, note or document is not detected anymore. In order to avoid false information (electric noises), the sensor that initiated the procedure and eventually is concluding it, it is tried by at least two hundred and fifty times as shown stages (4, 7 and 8 or 10, 13 and 14), for then characterize the anomaly shown in stages (9) and (15) of flowchart.

The mistake of double can be caused or by mechanical misadjusts in the storytelling machine or when the bills, notes or documents are adhered each other. In these conditions, the transparency intrinsic to the bills, notes or documents is changed and, as the sensors are sensitive to this alteration, the detection of this failure becomes simplified. Independent of transparency degree, this doesn't limit the efficiency and reliability of the storytelling machine, because it verifies and tests the condition of double for at least a hundred times before indeed highlight the failure, as demonstrated in the stages (17) (21) (22) (23) and (24).

As explained previously the hardware platform developed for the storytelling machine allows the speed of traction motor to be changed as the need. That is important operationally, because the machine is passible of operate in two counting manners. In a way, the operator can count only a certain quantity of bills, notes or documents. In another way, besides counting it also separates the bills, notes or documents in pre-defined blocks. This last way, stage (48) of flowchart, the processor is programmed so that at the end of the block, the traction motor is turned off. The exact moment of stop of the motor is perfectly controlled by system in order to avoid that the blocks of bills, notes or documents contain different quantity from specified. To that, in the hardware platform, it was developed an electronic brake for motor of continuous chain that minimizes the inertia inherent to the walking of the bills, notes or documents along the storytelling machine properly controlled by system.

A premise for the storytelling machines in which the present system is applied, it is to be able to count bills, notes or documents more quickly. Being this way, during the counting process the transportation speed of the traction motor should be optimized to the maximum as shown in stage (1) of flowchart, however a counting high speed implies in the need to great efficiency of the stop procedure. Like the mechanism is not able to offer that result, the system foresees a special resource for the stop of the motor. Thus, it was possible to optimize time of process, increase the counting speed and, even so, guarantee that in the separation way for blocks the machine attends a hundred percent the quantitative reliability inquiry.

The special device developed for the stop of the motor consists in reduce the speed of the traction motor whenever the accountant bills, notes or

documents or already counted documents approaches the quantity pre-fitting for this block, as shown stages (49) and (50) of flowchart . Thus, lacking few bills, notes or documents to reach the bills, notes or documents quantity for blocks the rotation of the motor is reduced as shown in stage (50) of flowchart. The quantity of lacked bills, notes or documents that define when the speed of the motor will be reduced is variable and depends on the interaction with the user and of an automatic subsystem that proceeds small fittings on the value defined by the operator optimizing the reduction instant of the rotation. This means that even though the operator has accomplished an inadequate adjustment, the system is capable of corrected it, optimizing the adjustment accomplished by the operator until the limit defined in the system, when it indicates the need to maintenance.

It contributes as a limiting factor of the implementation of sub-system of stop, the preservation state of the bills, notes or documents, in this case in particular the preservation state of the paper money that is damaging along its useful life. Generally the paper money when new presents more weight and rigidity that already used paper money that, in practical conditions, means different physical situations. When new, the paper money presents more rigidity, on the other side of when used in which it is more flexible, finer and with oiliness and dust. That obliges the system to offer conditions to that the storytelling machine auto-adjusts to the state of the paper money in order to adapt automatically to any situation.

The pre-adjustment can be accomplished by the operator directly through the keyboards contained in the board, where it can select by means of specific buttons whether the bills, notes or documents present good form of preservation; average form of preservation or then bad form of preservation. Such selection serves as parameter for definition of the threshold from which the rotation of the traction motor will be reduced, in order to guarantee the needed stop the storytelling machine at the correct moment.

Even after the stop of the traction motor as shown in stage (52) of flowchart, the processor continues to count the bills, notes or documents that perhaps pass by the storytelling machine partial or totally. If, for some reason, pass by the storytelling machine one or more than one bill or document beyond of those pre-determined by block, as shown stages (51) and (53), the system highlights

counting mistake in the board of the storytelling machine as shown in stage (54) of flowchart, besides interacting of inversely proportional form to the threshold of the speed reduction as in the stage (55) of flowchart , in other words, if necessary, the system allows the storytelling machine changes itself the speed reduction moment in order to avoid that the counting mistake repeats, adapting the working conditions to the physical reality of the preservation conditions of the bills, notes or documents as well as to the eventual waste of the transportation mechanism.

Even such threshold has been defined by the operator when selecting via keyboard certain state of preservation of the bills, notes or documents, the system can interfere automatically in this adjustment, always in the sense of optimizing the process.

When being concluded the counting cycle, be with or without packages separation, leaving the piling up magazine the counted documents and, in there being more documents in the alimentation magazine, the sensor (S5) will give restart to the process for the nearby package.
