Title:
SYSTEM FOR PREPARING AND HANDLING MULTIPLE LASER DESORPTION IONIZATION PROBES
Document Type and Number:
WIPO Patent Application WO2003072249
Kind Code:
A9
Abstract:
The present invention comprises a system (10) to facilitate sample preparation, common transport, and storage of a plurality of laser desorption ionization probes (40) to be interrogated in a mass spectrometer. The system (10) includes a cassette (20) that accepts the plurality of probes (40), a well plate (60) that engages the cassette (20) and permits delivery of samples to the probes (40) without fluid communication between samples, and a clamp (80) to secure the well plate (60) to the cassette (20). The cassette (20) is configured to constrain the plurality of probes (40) so that the probes (40) suspend from ribs (22) disposed within the cassette (20). This permits the top and bottom surfaces of the probes (40) to be substantially exposed and facilitates insertion and removal of the probes (40) from the cassette (20) without user contact of active areas on the probes (40).
